Authors, scientists, and technologists have dreamed for decades of “intelligent computers that help people”. These dreams are now within reach, thanks to generative AI. Ario is building consumer-grade, general-purpose AI assistants for everyone. This is a huge task and will take many years to accomplish.
We can break this vision down into components, but first let us share our intended end result: Ario’s ultimate product goal is to turn the extraordinary “surplus” created by Gen AI into something very concrete:
One full day of free time for every human on earth.
Ario is doing this by building a consumer AI assistant that initially focuses on the everyday tasks that are universal to so many of us: managing time, schedules, and family obligations.
In many ways, Ario’s product replicates a virtual assistant. Access to virtual assistants is typically constrained by cost and privilege. With generative AI, however, support is available at an extremely accessible price point.
To be abundantly clear, Ario does not believe a generative AI assistant will be the equivalent to a professional admin with fifteen years of experience. Rather, Ario’s assistant expands access; more people will get the support they need and deserve.
Ario’s unique entry point is user data: the first thing the app does is help a user download all of her data from every major B2C service she uses. This wealth of data enables Ario to immediately provide proactive value.
A parent doesn't have to tell her AI assistant that her toddler no longer likes trucks and is into spaceships. Her assistant will know implicitly by observing the family's most recent library loans and Amazon purchases.
A user’s AI agent doesn’t observe “office hours.” If a user is awake, her assistant is too. Ario even works on the user’s behalf when she’s sleeping, looking for ways to take tasks off her plate.
As mentioned above, executing on this full vision will take many years.
Ario is currently in phase 1 of a 3-phased roadmap.
Ability to extract and transform relevant user data to inform decision-making
Ability to communicate with users (app notifications and email).
Ability to create and store persistent processes (in essence, a small computer program).
Ability to read and write from a user's other applications, such as email and ecommerce apps
This means users can say things like “Ario, invite these three people below to my housewarming party and add an extra bottle of wine to my Instacart order."
Ability to browse the internet in real-time
Ability to provide personalized content, recommendations, and coaching
This means a user can say “Ario, I need to cut out sugar" and Ario will create a unique meal plan based on the user's grocery spending, food delivery history, availability to cook, and more.
Once these three phases are complete, Ario will move on to the next big challenge: enabling a user to leverage their own data as a financial asset.
